1. Muscle Energy Techniques: Sunday July 8
MET is one of a range of gentle, non-invasive Neuromuscular Techniques that can assist in restoring better quality range of movement across joints where there is evidence of restricted mobility as a result of adaptive muscle shortening. MET is completely safe because it is client and not the therapist, who controls the strength and force of activity.
course content:
MET theory; postural assessment and identifying dysfunction; contra-indication to treatment and referral; demonstration and guidance; hands-on practical work to the neck & shoulders, arms and legs.
2. Soft Tissue Release: Sun Aug 5
Soft tissue release is a technique used to apply controlled stretches to elongate fibres and improve efficient functioning locally as well as globally throughout the muscle. STR can be performed through clothing as an isolated therapy provided sufficient warming takes place prior to application or incorporated into a massage treatment to prolong the effect and benefit.
Course content:
STR theory; Identifying dysfunction; Contra-indication to treatment;
when to use STR; using STR with client clothed; integrating STR within a massage treatment; hands-on practical work to the arms, neck, chest, back and legs; applying STR with client standing, seated, prone, supine and side-lying
3. Positional Release Techique (PRT) workshop: Sun Sept 2
This is designed to introduce a range of techniques that will enable therapists to treat clients in circumstances where pain or local inflammation contraindicate massage or the use of muscle energy techniques. PRT is a gentle range of manual treatments for muscle pain and spasm involving resetting muscle tone and enhancing blood circulation.
course content:
PRT theory – strain/counterstrain; understanding the role of proprioceptors; postural assessment and identifying dysfunction; contra-indications to treatment and referral; step by step guidance in treating soft tissue and joint problems; hands-on practical work to the back and hip.
4. Two Day Shoulder Workshop - Sat/Sun Dec 8/9
Dealing with shoulder complaints leaves many therapists perplexed and many clients achieving only temporary relief. This two-day workshop examines some of the many causes of shoulder pain and introduces new techniques adapted to deal with discomfort and help to prevent recurrence. As with the lower back it is an area where relief can be felt most immediately.
The workshop also includes some deep tissue massage, specifically to the shoulder area, but also to the upper and lower back.
