About The Wilbury School
The Wilbury school was founded in 1982 by Gill Dunley and Julian Barker at the Wilbury Clinic, Wilbury Road in Hove. Gill taught holistic massage and aromatherapy courses and the school later became a registered ITEC college.
Vicki Bryceson took over the school in the 1990s when Lindy Gillam was re-organising the school’s administration. The school moved to larger premises in Church Road, Hove and soon grew under the dynamic team. Reflexology, Sports Massage and Anatomy & Physiology were added to the curriculum.
Vicki later wished to develop Marsh Farm (which hosts the Holistic Massage residential revision weekend) as a retreat centre and sold the school in 1999 to Lindy who had connections with a new clinic about to open in Dyke Road, Brighton.
Since moving to the Dyke Road Clinic under Lindy’s ownership, the Wilbury school has gone from strength to strength and it now runs courses in more than 16 subjects, including many advanced skills, with a team of no less than 17 tutors, helpers and administration staff. Admin Manager John Owen has greatly contributed to the school’s re-organisation and efficiency.
Even with all these positive developments, however, the heart of the Wilbury school’s training remains intact. The Wilbury massage is still in its purest form, since it was developed from the Churchill centre’s pioneering massage all those years ago. Principal tutor Vicki is still at the hub of the school’s holistic massage training and her experience and high standards are reflected in exam results. All the other Wilbury school tutors, without exception, are excellent and have contributed in no small way to the school’s success.
Despite its growth, the Wilbury school still retains its ‘small and friendly’ appeal and offers a warm welcome and plenty of support to everyone who enrols on their courses.
We look forward to welcoming you, too.
