About The Wilbury School

A bit of history

The Wilbury School was founded in 1982 by Gill Dunley and Julian Barker at the Wilbury Clinic in Hove. Gill had conceived and developed the ‘Wilbury Massage’ based on pioneering work taught at the Churchill Centre in London, which she then began teaching by popular request. She also taught aromatherapy and the school was soon accepted as a registered ITEC college.

Vicki Bryceson took over the school in the 1990s. She carried forward the ‘Wilbury Massage’ and the school’s reputation for high quality teaching grew locally and internationally. Eventually the school needed larger premises and moved to Church Road in Hove.

Lindy Gillam, who had worked with the school in the 1990s as administrator, helped re-organise the school and developed and expanded the courses to include Reflexology, Sports Massage and Anatomy & Physiology.

In 1999 Lindy took over ownership of the school with Vicki continuing to teach as Principal Tutor. Under Lindy’s ownership the school moved to the Dyke Road Clinic. She further increased the number of subjects to include many advanced skills and took on extra staff. Admin Manager John Owen computerised all the school’s systems, greatly improving efficiency.

Since our early beginnings, the breadth of the ITEC syllabus has grown to meet the professional needs of career practitioners and their clients. To exceed these criteria we have recruited specialized tutors to maintain and develop the highest standards in all of our subjects. All our tutors are exceptionally proficient and well informed in their subjects with excellent teaching skills.

Our ethos

We will not compromise on quality just to get students through exams. We offer more tuition hours than many other comparable colleges and our high standards are reflected in our exam results. We believe that it takes time to develop as a safe practitioner and that this process cannot be rushed. We do not believe in ‘fast track’ courses!

Although the Wilbury school has evolved over the years, the heart of our training remains intact – The Wilbury massage is still in its purest form, since it was developed 30 years ago.

We strive to maintain our ‘small and friendly’ appeal and to offer a warm welcome and plenty of support to everyone who enrols on our courses.

We look forward to welcoming you at the start of your new journey to a more fulfilling lifestyle.
