Hot Stone Massage

Tutor: Catherine Alderson MCMA, APNT, ITEC

Hot Stone Massage is an incredibly relaxing treatment using heated Basalt stones to enhance the benefits of your massage. The stones glide effortlessly over the skin, increasing its temperature and penetrating deeply into muscle tissue to improve circulation and calm the nervous system. Superficial muscles relax, giving access to deeper muscle. The heat of the basalt stones release muscle tension faster than a classic Swedish massage. It is generally considered that one stroke with a heated Basalt stone is the equivalent of 5 strokes of the therapist's hands.

Basalt stones are a smooth black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat for much longer than ordinary stones due to its high ferrous content. The stones are rich in micro-elements and the invisible holes in their surfaces can store heat.

On this course you will be shown the safe application of stones and stone alignment. We will also incorporate Cryotherapy (the use of cold stones) which is helpful for use on congested areas.
