Sports Massage, ITEC Diploma Level 3

Tutor: Anna Hopcroft BSc (Hons)

CThA Approved Course

Sports Massage therapy is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to correct problems and imbalances, enhance performance and aid recovery from chronic and acute pain conditions, through accidents or sports injury; scar tissue post-surgery; poor posture; repetitive strain and overuse. The techniques can be used not just on sports people, but on all clients suffering from commonly occurring pain conditions such as sciatica.

If you are interested in sports and treating sports people, or if you would like to help people with general pain conditions, then this course will give you the techniques and the qualification to do so.

Only therapists who hold a nationally recognised Sports Massage qualification, such as an ITEC diploma, are permitted to call themselves Sports Massage therapists, and gain insurance for this.

The Course

Our Sports Massage Diploma course teaches a combination of Advanced Massage techniques which equip you to diagnose and treat a range of conditions. The Techniques include Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, Soft Tissue Release, Connective Tissue Massage, Neuro-Muscular techniques and stretching.

The techniques can be used on a wide range of common chronic conditions such as Frozen Shoulder, Lower Back Pain, Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), Hip and leg pain, Headaches and Migraine, leg and shoulder pain etc.

The course runs over six weekends monthly, with each weekend combining theory and practical subjects. In addition there is a clinic/review day, when you will be able to practice on a local sports team.

PRACTICE AND ADVICE: As sports massage students will often be dealing with people's injuries and conditions, tutor support outside the teaching environment is essential to build confidence. Students are able to contact their tutor freely by e.mail or telephone when they need guidance or advice.
