Anatomy & Physiology, ITEC Diploma Level 3

Tutor: Trevor Gorard MISRM, McThA

This fascinating subject is challenging, and very rewarding. A thorough understanding of the human body, how it works and what can go wrong with it, is an essential requirement of all body workers such as shiatsu, yoga and pilates practitioners, as well as massage therapists.

The Course

The course is held twice a year, but it is sometimes possible to join mid-way through as the lectures are on-going.
Tutor Trevor Gorard has been working as a practising therapist since 2002 and has been teaching Anatomy, Physiology and Massage since 2003, 25 year career as a Kyokushin Karate instructor at Wimbledon and Surbiton Karate clubs.

He has taught at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, at Kingston University and latterly with Kingston Adult Education. He is also Lead Tutor at the School of Natural Therapies, Clapham, where he has gained extensive experience in teaching ITEC Level 3 QCF in Anatomy & Physiology and other affiliated subjects, in addition to advanced massage techniques.

Trevor makes it a priority to try to recognise the most appropriate method for each learner so that everyone has the best chance of understanding this fascinating subject.

During the course, you will learn about all twelve systems of the body, how they interact with one another and their associated conditions and diseases.

The 12 systems, which are taught in this order, are:

  1. Skeletal/Muscular
  2. Cardiovascular/Lymphatic
  3. Histology & tissues/Skin
  4. Nervous/urinary
  5. Endocrine/Reproductive
  6. Respiratory/Digestive

This is a flexible, part-time course, comprising six monthly lectures (Saturdays 10am - 5.30pm), 2 subjects per lecture.
It includes a manual, CD-ROM, textbook, home-study project, and monthly assignments.

NB: A&P is an integral part of the Holistic Massage and Reflexology courses. It can be taken in advance of, or in conjunction with, for example Reflexology, Thai Massage or Kinesiology.
