Holistic Massage
Tutor: Vicki Bryceson MICHT, ATLM, MPACT
The Wilbury School's massage is unique.
It was especially devised as a 90 minute routine to include many effective health giving techniques, which can be tailored to individual client needs.
It is has grown to become a highly regarded, classical massage training in its own right.
The Wilbury school massage is based on teachings from one of the pioneering schools of massage in the UK: the Churchill Centre in London.
Principal tutor Vicki Bryceson, whose knowledge and experience has been fundamental to the Wilbury school's massage training since the late 1980s, says:
'Our massage is special in that it is based on a multidiscipline format. Not only do we use strokes introduced by Henrik Ling in the 18th Century, but we have adopted techniques from Californian massage, we work on meridians that come from Shiatsu, zones that originate from Reflexology, acupressure points and polarity therapy for balancing energies - all of which contribute to a wonderfully effective treatment. This is reflected time and time again in the fantastic feedback our students hear from their clients.'
The course
This is a nine month, part-time course, held mainly over evenings and weekends. It is designed to be flexible so that you can study around other commitments.
There are three stages, each lasting about three months. You will learn three main subjects:
- Holistic massage practice and theory
- Anatomy & physiology
- Practice management
Each stage includes practical tuition, lectures, workshops and guided practice sessions.
Stage 1
Begins with six full days tuition where you will start to learn the massage routine and topics that will shape you as a therapist.
We encourage home practice as well as attending supervised evening sessions.
Anatomy & Physiology sessions, held one Saturday per month, will help you gain an insight into the fascinating workings of the human body.
You will also attend our certificated Emergency First-Aid day.
Stage 2
You will learn how to refine your skills and how to take case histories, tailoring the massage techniques to suit individual clients. The Practice Management module will cover all aspects of becoming a professional practitioner, such as setting up your own business and marketing your skills.
Stage 3 and Residential Weekend
You will be completing course work and preparing for exams, including a Residential Revision Weekend at Marsh Farm, near Arundel.
The Marsh Farm Residential Revision weekend is exclusive to the Wilbury School. Marsh Farm is a 16th century Tudor Farmhouse set in the heart of the Sussex countryside and is hosted by principal tutor Vicki Bryceson.
There will also be evening revision sessions in Anatomy, Physiology and Practice Management in Brighton to guide you through the exams.
